Mary's story
It all starts of as fun, you go to the casino and have a night out, spend a small bit maybe lose or win, but it was fun and you walk out the door not thinking about it.
Then you go again could be few months later, spend a bit but not too much, you are still in control. Then fast forward years and you are now spending what you can get your hands on, trying to come up with ideas to get more money, asking family and friends but never telling them the real reason you want the money.
When you lose the bill and grocery money, you fall behind on bills, you get behind on bills and can never have $20 in your wallet because you have to go put it in a pokie machine hoping to win even one hundred$100, but the sickness is that even if you win with that $20 you will not stop and walk out the door with it, you will just get greedy and keep going until you lose it all and leave with nothing.
Everyone thinks it would never happen to them. Well it does happen to people of all walks of life rich, poor, it will get a hold of you and it is like being possessed, I have tried so many times to quit, but it is very hard to overcome, I am going to try again, one thing I did learn is get through the first few months and never ever think you can just go in for a few minutes and not start back gambling, it is like quitting smoking and drinking you just can’t have one.
I hope anyone reading this will give quitting a try, take it one day at a time, if possible find meetings or a good friend who can help you. I am going to try again starting today, if I keep this up, I will be living on the street in a few years.
